Dear Friends,

We are happy to introduce the first edition of the electronic newsletter Heschel Updates. The Updates will be published four times a year, to inform our friends and supporters about programs, events and new initiatives at the Heschel Center. Now that we've made significant strides in reaching the "early adapters" of new ideas, we have to expand the circle and spread awareness about the social-environmental crisis in Israel much further.

As we embark on a new year brimming with action, our only apprehension is about our continuing ability to fund these initiatives. The energy is all here, and so is the talent - we have gathered some of the best minds and most able people in the environmental movement. But in order to continue working through the ebbs and flows of foundation grants, we must find new partners who share our vision of a more sustainable future for Israel. That is why we are taking this opportunity to turn to you - our supporters and friends: if you believe, like us, that it is our responsibility to nurture and protect this land for the sake of all who love it, now and in future generations - please make a contribution that will make a difference.

Israel is a complicated, yet young and impressionable state. Bringing about systemic change is a real possibility. But it takes our common efforts to forge its future in the image of our dreams. We can yet create a thriving culture with social justice, solidarity and ecological health for religious and secular, Jews and Arabs, rich and poor. This land can yet be flowing with milk and honey once again. We invite you to partake in our efforts
