Orli Ronen - Director of the Local Sustainability Center and Heschel's Deputy Director - just received a letter that the center is to be awarded the Israel Environmental Movement's Green Globe for municipal activity. Each year the environmental movement (under the auspices of the Life and Environment umbrella organization) gives out these awards in a number of categories for initiatives, organizations and individuals who have made significant achievements towards sustainability in Israel. There is also a "Black Globe" given to whoever has done the most to harm Israel's environment. Details on last year's ceremony (with pictures) can be seen here. The awards will be presented at a high-profile ceremony on World Environment Day, June 5.
